FAQs

Is International Primary School Groningen a private school?

IPSG is government-funded and not a private school. An annual fee is requested from parents, which supports educational enrichment and resources. Children who meet the Dutch International Schools criteria for admission may be registered at IPSG.

Where is the school located and where can I park?

International Primary School Groningen is located at Rijksstraatweg 24, Haren. We’re about 10 minutes by car from central Groningen. Parking is available behind the Shell station near the school, with access through the football club grounds. By bicycle, it’s around 20 minutes from the city, and pupils are asked to park their bikes at the front of the building. Buses 50 and 51 stop nearby at Sportpark Esserberg.

Is there a school uniform?

No uniform is required. Older pupils (Groups 3-6) need gym shoes, shorts, and a t-shirt for PE. Younger children should wear clothes suitable for active play. All gym items must be labelled.

Does IPSG provide lunch?

The school does not provide lunch. Children bring their own food, so please pack meals that are easy to eat and don’t require heating. All pupils stay at school for lunch, supervised by staff. Please note that every Wednesday school ends at 12:30 and there is no designated lunch break.

Why does school end early on Wednesdays?

All Dutch primary schools end earlier on Wednesdays. This shorter day allows time for teacher planning, staff meetings, and professional development. For children, it provides a chance to pursue extracurricular activities or enjoy more family time. The tradition reflects the Dutch emphasis on work-life balance.

What is the policy on mobile phones?

Phones and smartwatches must be handed in to teachers at the start of the day. Use is not allowed during school hours. The school is not responsible for lost or damaged devices.

Are religious or cultural festivals celebrated?

Yes, Dutch and international festivals are acknowledged in a non-religious way. Families are encouraged to share meaningful celebrations with their child’s class. Speak with your teacher if interested.

What is Social Schools?

Social Schools is our parent portal. Once your child is enrolled, you'll receive login details to access news, class updates, documents, and parent-teacher meeting bookings.

What should I do if my child is sick?
